HOW WE CAN HELP
YOUR CLIENTS

Transition Management
We are full service Transition Managers who work with seniors, their families, and service providers to make a later life move as stress-free as possible.

As a Senior Real Estate Specialist and a Geriatric Social Worker, we understand how challenging it is for seniors to downsize, sell their homes and move.

We work with a range of professionals and facilities to help them provide quality services to their clients.

  • SOCIAL WORKERS OR CARE MANAGERS: We can take over any or all of the details involved in downsizing, moving, and selling the home when community services are no longer enough.

  • ATTORNEYS, GUARDIANS OR TRUST OFFICERS: We can support and assist your clients in any way needed during their residential transition.

  • SENIOR HOUSING FACILITIES: We can provide downsizing, moving and real estate assistance to your residents or people on wait-lists.

We also offer the following:

  • SEMINARS FOR SENIORS AND FAMILIES: As well as direct services, we offer downsizing seminars for potential residents in the community who are too overwhelmed to move forward. Sometimes, a little support and information is all someone needs to take action, get on a waiting list and begin the downsizing process

  • ON-GOING SUPPORT GROUPS for seniors and adult children needing additional help.

  • CUSTOMIZED SEMINARS for corporations and housing facilities

  • INDIVIDUAL CONSULTATIONS for clients stressed about their potential move or for adult children dealing with their aging parents.

  • GUIDEBOOK:We have written a comprehensive guidebook with nearly 200 pages of useful information. On the left side of this page you will find more information about: WHEN ITS MORE THAN JUST STUFF

  • GOAL PLANNING SESSIONS including identification of what needs to be done and when.

  • RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE BEST LIVING SITUATION based on client's needs and desires.

  • HOUSING TOURS including senior housing, condos and one level homes. We also work together with clients and their advisory teams when difficult decisions must be made. We help with paperwork and contract negotiations.

  • STRESS REDUCTION by being the main contact for all the service providers involved in your client's transition. By advocating on your client's behalf, we take away many of the frustrations and areas of confusion seniors face during this challenging time.

  • WE MAINTAIN THE MASTER CALENDAR of events to avoid over-scheduling, conflicts and other kinds of problems. Because there are often a multitude of timelines to adhere to, clients can often become confused and make costly mistakes. We attempt not to overwhelm our clients with all of the details. Instead, we present them with a weekly to-do list, with written directions and a detailed calendar.

  • WE CHECK IN to make sure that they are not overwhelmed. If they are, we do our best to slow things down or offer the help they need to meet up-coming deadlines.

  • WE PROTECT CLIENTS from hiring unreliable and unethical service providers by recommending quality providers or interviewing them ourselves. Although we cannot guarantee that there will be no problems, the service provider understands that he/she is dealing with intelligent people who are familiar with contracts, business ethics, and who demand professionalism and ethical standards at all time.

  • HANDS ON HELP with sorting, organizing and dispersing excess belongings.

  • MANAGING ALL THE DETAILS OF THEIR MOVE, including transfer of utilities and settling in.

More than Just a Real Estate Team

ARLINE ABRAMS, A SENIOR REAL ESTATE SPECIALIST and Associate Broker with Windermere Real Estate/Oaktree, Inc* is also the founder of SENIOR TRANSITIONS NW. Based on 30 years of experience helping people make later life moves, and frustrated by the lack of services available to her clients during their transition from "here to there", she opened SENIOR TRANSITIONS NW.

Since that time she has expanded her company to meet all of the needs of seniors considering a later life move. SENIOR TRANSITIONS NW supports seniors in a multitude of ways, from exploring their housing options to downsizing a lifetime of belongings to moving and settling into their new residence,

To make certain that her clients were receiving the best services possible, she partnered with MIMI HANDLIN, MSW, a geriatric social worker and noted author who has specialized in senior housing issues for the past several years. Throughout the real estate transaction, Handlin assists Abrams in a variety of ways. Together, they are able to make the real estate process run smoothly without losing sight of their client's emotional and physical well being. They also act as a liaison between clients, the public, their families and professional advisory team, while managing the complex myriad of details involved with downsizing and moving.

"Our training and experience have taught us that the needs of seniors during this challenging time are far different from other age groups selling their home. This is why we focus on far more than simply marketing and escrow," says Abrams.

"Because we strive to be aware of our client's physical, emotional and cognitive needs, we can customize the real estate marketing plan so that it's geared to suit each person," adds Handlin.

"One example of how we do this is with daily check-ins. We usually call in the early evening - chatting for only a few minutes or talking seriously for more than an hour. During this time, we address current questions and concerns, listen to a funny story about the day's events, share the excitement about a potential buyer or offer reassurance about areas that may be causing anxiety."

Abrams explains, "Our check-in also enables us to remind them about scheduled events for the coming day. Because aging frequently diminishes our memory, these reminders are enormously helpful. Finally, they help us to know whether to continue in the direction we've been going, or slow things down.

While some days may seem manageable, other days, the marketing activity can be overwhelming. Perhaps we need to adjust the times of day that agents show the home, because our client is experiencing more fatigue in the early afternoons. Sometimes we simply give our client the day off by preventing anyone from coming through. Although our job is to sell their home for the highest profit possible, our ultimate concern is with our client's well being."

Two people, two areas of expertise.
And that can make all the difference in the world.
